I'm very burnt out with my day job and have been dreaming of a career change. Let me tell you, a career in cake baking is not in my future.
I first saw the Taste of Home Sunflower Peep cake at First Draught Farm's Peep Show. I thought, "That's adorable and looks so easy!" I'm not sure what I did wrong, but both layers of the cake stuck in the pans and cracked & crumbled when I removed them. Perhaps they were in the pans too long. They were to cool for 10 minutes before removal, but I fell asleep while watching a re-run of the show Bones. Bones is not a boring show; it is one of my favorites. But I tend to fall asleep when watching TV. Ask my husband. There are many shows and movies to which I don't know the ending.
So here's my Peep cake:
It is gingerly held together by gobs and gobs of chocolate frosting, like glue.
If you are like me, and prefer just a little bit of cake with your frosting then it will still be delicious. I'm just not sure what's going to happen when we make that first cut.
Nobody in our family will suffer from a lack of sugar today; or from a lack of Peeps.
It is a rather dreary, foggy Easter morning here.
This is a difficult time of year for me in Colorado. After a long, cold winter I'm longing for Springtime warmth and sunshine. But at this altitude, warmth and sunshine are not ready to make a consistent appearance. They just briefly tease us between cold snaps.
Misty still has that big bump on the side of her face. Her recovery from the slab fracture has been slow and frustrating. The hole in her gum was very deep and narrow and, while it is healing, it keeps getting packed with food which seems to slow the process. The vet has cleaned it out and repacked it with dental wax several times. We return to the vet tomorrow to see what is going on in there. We expected her to be completely healed by now and I'm eager for her to be well enough to return to training.
Have a Happy Easter.
