Haflingers at Play

Yesterday was a beautiful day in the neighborhood. In between snow storms the temperature rose to above 40F (4C). Misty & Marley were kicking up their heals and racing playfully, as their equine friends did the same.

These two Haflinger geldings, Pippin and Meriadoc, were caught at just the right moment by their owner yesterday, as they frolicked in their pasture.

Looking forward to the playful days of Spring.

Misty's Monday Muse

I've heard rumors of shedding going on out there.

Is it true?

Are any of you equines shedding already?

Not me.
My winter coat is staying on!

And I'd like more warm beet pulp porridge please.

After all, a mare's gotta eat to keep a voluptuous figure.

Mid-week Merriment

A happy story to brighten the middle of the work week.

From my time living in Indonesia (where Orangutans are native), I recall "Orangutan" comes from "Orang Hutan", meaning "People of the Forest".

Off topic...but there is some riding in it.

NO ROLLKUR

I'm adding my support to that of Grey Horse Matters and Horse Of Course by posting the logo below and the associated text. I, too, hate to see the welfare of our equine athletes sacrificed in the name of sport, vanity, and greed.

"The FEI is holding a closed-door round table meeting on Feb. 9th to discuss the training method known as rollkur, or hyperflexion, which involves pulling and holding the horse's muzzle to his chest. This practice is known to have many negative effects on the horse, both physically and psychologically. Gerd Heuschmann, the lone voice for the horse at this meeting, has my support and appreciation as he presents his case "for the good of the horse" along with petitions and letters saying NO TO ROLLKUR."
