Gone Trail Ridin'

Misty and I are heading to the mountains for 3 days of trail riding.   Unfortunately, daily thunderstorms are in the forecast and I'm a fair weather rider.  I have my rain slicker rolled up and tied behind the cantle of my saddle.  It makes me look like a real trail rider, but goodness gracious, I really don't want to have to use it!

The trail boss said to expect rain and if we get into lightning, we'll dismount and make our way back to camp.  Yikes!  I don't do lightning.  I may chicken out on the riding.  But I'm going up there and camp out in my horse trailer, plugged into an RV pedestal,  with Misty in a pen next to me.   I'll play it by ear and see if I can summon my inner cowgirl and ride out from camp.

But lightening and thunder?  My inner cowgirl may choose to cower in the horse trailer and watch a movie on her DVD player.

We'll see.  But you know what they say, "When thunder roars, go indoors."  Or into your horse trailer.

Here are pictures of a recent fair weather trail ride I participated in.  I had a great time on this one.  There were 19 riders and it was a beautiful day.

Can you see Misty in the trees above?

  5. I don't do lightening either. I would be right there in the horse trailer with you watching a movie! I went on a camp out/ride this past weekend in West Virginia and storms had been predicted for Friday. Luckily we only saw a brief storm while we were setting up and nothing else. I was sure worried about it though. Hope you have fun on your trip!

  8. So exciting (doubly so because I just found out I might get to go on my first horse camping trip in November; fingers crossed)!! I'm sure there will be spots of fair weather to ride in. I hope so at least. If not, the camping experience itself is still a lot of fun. Be careful out there!

  9. Yippee! This sounds like a great time. I hope the weather holds for you and your Misty girl. Lightning is nothing to mess around with - get into that trailer!
The photos of your other ride are just perfect. So happy for you two!

  10. Sounds like fun, minus the lightening part - that feels waaay too close up on a mountain! Hope the weather holds out, enjoy ~ can't wait to hear about it!!

  11. Amazing! I would love to do something like this but I don't think there are many options in my area. Misty has come so far (and so have you, of course!) Beautiful pictures. Does Sara Jane mind when Misty is away at sleep-overs?

  12. Wow I love the pictures. Love trails and places to ride like that. Up here in WA, it's very bushy and paths aren't open like that in a lot of places. You just have to make your way through - not my fave. Gorgeous pics!!
