I know the answers!! We drove under that museum on our trip home with the RV last year. We wanted to stop, but were unsure about maneuvering in such a large vehicle. I had to do a bit of Googling to figure out what capital that town, which begins with a K, is. Wow! What a surprise! I don't want to blurt out the answers, so others can have fun!
I've driven under it 6 or 8 times and it wasn't until this trip when I took a picture and could zoom in, that I could see that the winged creature is a HORSE. I thought it was an eagle or gargoyle for a long time. K is indeed the first letter of the town.
It's in Nebraska, on I80, along the Oregon trail - I've been under the arch a number of times (usually pulling a horse trailer) and have never stopped.
Happy Thanksgiving Once Upon and Family! I'm glad to read you had a nice visit and are happily back with your furry friends! I think I've been under the arch but didn't stop.
It is the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument, commonly known as The Archway; a privately owned, 64 million dollar log bridge. It is located in Kearney, Nebraska, the Sand Hill Crane capital of the world. Jack Nicholson filmed a scene at The Archway for the movie "About Schmidt".
I've loved horses all my life and owned several when I was younger. I showed in English Pleasure and Amateur Hunters in my 20s. Now in my 50s, following a long absence of horses, I've rekindled my passion. I have three equines at home - Misty, a Percheron mare, Lyra a mini horse and her daughter, Lola, a mini mule. We're an odd looking group, but we get along great.

ReplyDeleteWe drive under this every time we go to CO. The years we didn't drive through, we stayed in this town and ate at Whiskey River - yum!!
