U. S. Highway Trivia

We recently passed under this monument.

Where were we? Name the town and state.

Bonus:
This town is known as "the   ___?___  __?__   Capitol of the World."

No prizes; just your personal satisfaction of weird highway knowledge.

  1. I know the answers!! We drove under that museum on our trip home with the RV last year. We wanted to stop, but were unsure about maneuvering in such a large vehicle. I had to do a bit of Googling to figure out what capital that town, which begins with a K, is. Wow! What a surprise! I don't want to blurt out the answers, so others can have fun!

    1. I've driven under it 6 or 8 times and it wasn't until this trip when I took a picture and could zoom in, that I could see that the winged creature is a HORSE. I thought it was an eagle or gargoyle for a long time. K is indeed the first letter of the town.

    1. Thanks. We had a nice visit with family. But it is good to be home. I was so glad to see the dogs. Tomorrow the horses.

  3. It's in Nebraska, on I80, along the Oregon trail - I've been under the arch a number of times (usually pulling a horse trailer) and have never stopped.

  4. We drive under this every time we go to CO. The years we didn't drive through, we stayed in this town and ate at Whiskey River - yum!!

  5. Happy Thanksgiving Once Upon and Family! I'm glad to read you had a nice visit and are happily back with your furry friends! I think I've been under the arch but didn't stop.

  6. It is the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument, commonly known as The Archway; a privately owned, 64 million dollar log bridge. It is located in Kearney, Nebraska, the Sand Hill Crane capital of the world. Jack Nicholson filmed a scene at The Archway for the movie "About Schmidt".
