Things People Say

Last night my husband and I attended a church youth barn dance in a small country town. The dance floor was lined with hay bales and the  D.J. was spinning tunes from a big flatbed trailer strung with white lights.  The organizers did a great job decorating.  The refreshments were yummy and the kids were having fun.

At the entrance were some ladies seated at a sign-in table to check kids in as they arrived.  The dance music was loud and I probably didn't enunciate my words well, resulting in a funny exchange with one of the ladies.

Next to the table was a tub full of horse shoes for the kids to take home as a memento. Mr. OnceUpon made a remark that started this odd conversation:

Mr. OnceUpon:  "None of those shoes would fit Misty."

Me:  "Nope, they are way too small.

Lady:  "Oh, do you have a horse?"

Me:    "I have a draft horse and she has really big feet."

Lady:  "Really?!  Wow!  Where do you keep your giraffe?

  4. Leah, what does the guy down the road do with his zebras? I have seen a camel living on a Colorado farm. I thought I was seeing things at first.

GreyHorse...like everyone else, in a really tall barn.

Breathe, good saying. Can have some really interesting conversations when the parties are speaking of different things.

  7. Haha! That is too funny!! I'm used to seeing odd animals I guess. I've seen people with zebra, buffalo, ostriches, emus, llama, alpaca, etc. I know in some areas alpaca aren't really uncommon but they are here. I love seeing all the different animals. Haven't seen a giraffe yet, except at a zoo lol.

  9. Hm. I hope you have a really large barn to house your giraffe, Once Upon. In the snow and everything, I mean. Can't roam around in the cold. And how do you groom the neck?

My hustband is very hard of hearing and I HATE to repaeat myself...so HE WILL make up what he thinks he heard me say... it does make me laugh, as he is so diplomatic with his humor to defuse me. But, don't think he'd do it in public -with a stranger!!
