Misty's Monday Muse

A mean & nasty horse fly bit my pony Marley on the face and made him bleed. If I'd been there I would have pounded that fly into the ground without first putting a point on its head.

Despite the vile attack, Marley is still the more noble creature.

"A fly, Sir, may sting a stately horse and make him wince; but, one is but an insect, and the other is a horse still."
--- Samuel Johnson

Not all horse flies are bad however. We dig the groovy hoof stompin' sound of The Horse Flies below.

  1. I agree...Kill the fly that hurt Marley! The video however was good.

  2. Tis the season. Hate the flies and mosquitoes and gnats... I think one flew into my mouth the other day at the barn, yuck.

  3. Ugh! Poor Marley. I got bit by a horsefly on the weekend and my "cankle" just went away yesterday! A deer fly was chomping away at my forehead while I rode a small course last night. Rather than risk messing up my striding to swat it, I tried to ignore it. My co-workers are finding the big red mark amusing! Still, I won't wish away the summer just yet!

  4. RuckusButt, flies must really find you tasty. I've only been bitten by a horse fly once. It hurt! I second your opinion...let's keep summer around awhile longer despite the pesky flies.

  5. Lol, I am cursed with tasty blood it seems. My husband likes hiking with me because all the bugs feast on me and everyone else can enjoy bug-free wilderness. I once went out for a day with a medium ATV helmet being too big. At the end of the day, I could hardly get an XXL over my ears.

I want to hear about your "challenging" trail ride with Marley. I need to feel like I'm not alone as I contemplate when my wrist is well enough to tackle Edgar again!

I like the last flies best ;-)

  7. HOC...I ordered the CD. Will listen to it in the truck as I haul M&M to the farrier today.

RButt..I will post about the ride this weekend. The little stinker actually tried to take off with me using that right shoulder move of his.

  8. What a cool post! Sorry about Marley's bite. But I love how everything you said tracked on a theme, and then the music did too in a way...
